There Is a River

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of our God;

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of our God;

So I will rejoice, I will rejoice and be glad.

There is a fountain full of grace and it flows from Emmanuel's veins,

It came and refreshed me; It came and it healed me; It came and it washed my sins away...

And I will rejoice, I will rejoice and be glad.

I will rejoice, I will rejoice and be glad.

Andrew's headaches are only relieved by morphine. He has asked me to sing over him and rub his feet. He talks very little. He is very tired of all of this. I have told him he will have to fight and not give up. I remind him of how determined he was to learn new skateboarding tricks.

Please pray for relief from the headache. Please pray that the infection leaves quickly. Please pray that Andrew keeps fighting.

Last night I asked if he wanted me to read to him. He said, "Read the Bible."

I read Psalm 27, 91 and 97. Then I told him the story of the persistent widow and how Jesus used this parable to teach us to keep on asking, keep on praying and not give up.

I told him somehow he had to look past the present circumstances because there will be an end to it. He asked me how he could look past what was happening. He asked me why God doesn't just heal him.

All I can tell him is that we have to keep praying and believing that healing will come because God doesn't lie and He is the One who tells us He is the Healer.

Then I sing some more and I rub his feet and his dad keeps cold cloths on his forhead and eyes. We thank God for what He has already done and for what we beleive He will do.

It is very difficult right now. But we still believe in a good God who is the Healer. We still believe for the miracle to be completed.

  1. I can't begin to imagine what you're going through. It breaks my heart to read about Andrew and how he is suffering. I will continue to lift him up to the Healer, the Great Physician, the one who formed Andrew in your womb and with whom all things are possible to those who believe. (((hugs)))

  8. Melanie,

I'm so sorry that Andrew is suffering. Watching our children suffer feels unbearable. My son is enduring intense pain right now from surgery, (nothing compared to Andrew's, I'm sure) but I believe WITH you for God's healing and intervention for Andrew. I will CONTINUE to pray!

This morning as I prayed for my son, I prayed for YOUR son as well. I could not bear to pray for Josh and not for Andrew.

You are all in my prayers, Melanie!

  11. I'm so sorry Mel. Like Julie, I can relate on a tiny level, when my daughter had body aches with the flu and she was crying and saying "pray for me!" and "Why doesn't God make it stop?" It hurts so bad as the mom!!!!

When Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, God could have made the walls fall down instantly, or after 1 run around, or 2, or 3. But he made Joshua march around 7 times. I don't know why God makes us do things...perhaps to show our obedience. But I believe that in his timing he does move. I pray that Andrews pain & cancer go tumbling down like the walls of Jericho. Please God!

  12. Our Bible study group meets again this morning and we will all lift Andrew together to the almighty throne of God. I'm praying constantly. I can't imagine how incrediably difficult this must be for you. How I praise God that Andrew has the two of you for his earthly parents. What comfort and strength you bring Andrew I'm sure. I pray that God touches Andrew right now with His healing power and we bind the power of the enermy from attacking any of this precious family in any way today...Fill them Lord with your Spirit and strength. In Jesus name we pray....

  13. Mel, I saw a lady named Lisa Harper on t.v. yesterday, she said that God had instructed her to teach a room full of women on "dancing" you know like David danced before the Lord. She felt the message was not received very well by the audience, until one lady came up to her and said, this message was for me. God has been telling me to dance for Him, but I have no rhythm and do not know how to dance...she said God told her " Do not look at your feet...Look at MY face.
We can do nothing in our own power...Look at God's face Melanie. God loves us. He is not a mean vicious God . He loves us. Look at God's face sister!
Andrew Jesus loves you, be healed in Jesus mighty name.
    Love Lilly

  15. Dear Melanie,
I believe that being on the outside of all of this can have it's disadvantage as well. We are only looking at the wonderful things God is doing with Andrew right now. You are all in the middle of it, especially Andrew, who is hurting both physically and emotionally. Our prayers will be for continued physical healing but, more importantly, for emotional healing for all of you, especially Andrew. I am praising God that he has such a strong and faith-filled family and that he asked you to read the Bible to him. PRAISE GOD! Where does our strength and help come from??!!

Praying Psalm 107:19-20 for you now!

"Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent forth His word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave."

May God give you all an extra measure of peace and comfort in the days and weeks to come.

    God bless your dear family.

  16. I pray for comfort for all of you, especially Andrew, but for you as well. How difficult it must be to see him suffering. But keep the courage to keep pointing him back to the cross. I pray he will be given spiritual eyes to see God and HIs hand in this. I pray that He will see God's love and faithfulness thru this dark, hard time. Bless you all.

  23. Dear Heavenly Father,
As I sit and read these words, I cannot imagine what they are going through. I don't have the words to comfort, or the "I've been there before" situation to share about...so I just pray! I love You and I believe in YOU and I KNOW You will be with Andrew and the whole family as they walk this path. Thank you for being a GOD who keeps His promises! Thank you for letting us weep, thank You for letting us plead and beg, thank You for the comfort only you can give! Thank You for continuing to remind us that we may not understand, but that YOUR PEACE surpasses it all. I pray that YOU will touch their aching hearts today at this very minute. Put YOUR mighty hands on Andrew's body and heal him, keep him fighting, hold him, encourage him, lift him up. Remind him that though it seems unbearable, YOU are a GOD that can take it when we give it all to YOU!
Thank you, I love you, Amen.

    Love you and praying,
    Amber Pittman

  28. In tears, I just prayed Amber Pittman's prayer too. The hardest thing for parents is to watch their children suffer... think how much it grieves our Dad to watch us suffer (as it did when His own Son suffered). But with Him there is VICTORY! I pray for your strength, physically & emotionally during this very draining time. What a precious son you have & how blessed he is to have you as his parents. To God be the glory!

  35. Still praying and believing for all God has for Andrew!

When I read that song I thought about this scripture in Isaiah 41:18:

I will make rivers flow on barren heights,
    and springs within the valleys.
I will turn the desert into pools of water,
and the parched ground into springs!

Lord I pray for a constant supply of living waters for this family now. Rivers of your grace to flow as they seek your face and healing for Andrew. May they find joy in the hardest places as they depend on you each hour. Thank you Jesus for all you've done and will continue to do. Be glorifed Oh Lord...

    Love you Melanie♥

You have been very sweet to visit my blog a couple of times, and you left an encouraging note that I remember. I have been praying for you and for your son, and I will continue to do so.

I posted this verse on my blog yesterday: "The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." (Deuteronomy 31:8)

    You are loved.

  44. Dear Melanie,
You are sooooo very right......cancer is a terrorist sent from the deepest pit of hell to steal, kill, and destroy our dreams, our faith, our healing, our peace of mind ~BUT~
GLORY TO GOD>>>>JESUS gives us a peace that surpasses all understanding...a healing that no Dr. can give and he doesn't charge tens of thousands of dollars for chemo and radiation
