31 Days Closer to a Cuter You! Day 6 "She's a Brick House"

 She's a Brick House

Do you know your body type? It makes it much easier to choose clothing that flatters YOUR body when you understand your shape.

There are different terms used to describe the basic body types.
Author Mary Duffy uses the letters H O A X. The "H" is the classic fashion model or "rectangle" shape. The O is what is sometimes referred to as an "apple" or inverted triangle shape. The A is usually referred to as the triangle or "pear." The X is the hourglass shape.

The author of Good Girls Don't Have To Dress Bad, Shari Braendel (formerly of Proverbs 31 Ministries) identifies the basic body shapes as b o d x. This is very similar to the H O A X definitions and matches up accordingly.

The British authors and TV style gurus, Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine give 12 female body types. This is my favorite description for the body types because it is so thorough. You will definitely find yourself in one of these. Go here for that.

One more online resource that gives 5 body types, making an important distinction in the "O" or apple shape. If you feel you are in this category, you will want to check out the description of "adorable apple" and "statuesque inverted triangle."

I thought it would be fun to match up celebrity body styles with the very basic 4 types.

Nicole Kidman ~ H

Nicole Kidman ~ H/b
Queen Latifah ~ H/b

Elizabeth Hurley ~ O
Jessica Simpson ~ petite O
Elizabeth Hurley ~ O

Jennifer Lopez ~ A/d
Kim Kardashian ~ A/d
Jennifer Lopez ~ A

Halle Berry ~ X
Eva Longoria ~ petite X
 Kate Winslet ~ X
Halle Berry ~ X

Regardless of your weight or height, your basic body shape does not change. However a weight gain can muddle it up a bit. You may be petite or plus sized or somewhere in between but if you know what your body type is, you can dress to flatter YOUR figure!
So, have you identified your shape?
More to come on dressing your body ~

My friend, Laurie, adds this in the comment section:
"If you don't know what body type you are, I suggest taking a picture of yourself just standing there and you might be able to have a better perspective than in a mirror. Then take pictures with your favorite outfits and see if they really complement your figure or not. I did it myself. I am re-thinking some of my favorites. :) "
