I'll Run To You

So you think you can't run? I used to think that, too. Read the story here of how I got started running.

Running ~ 9/9/10
And read the story here of why I started running again to regain my emotional and physical strength.

Who knew God would run alongside me and strengthen my heart in what I like to call My 3 Mile Messages. Read about it here.

And if you've been toying with the thoughts of running, go here for a great article on how to get started.

Let me encourage you to take care of your physical body. Most of my life I have been at a good weight for my height of 5' 2 1/2". However, over a period of about 6 years I managed to eat lots of desserts because I managed to bake lots of desserts! I enjoyed every bite but I did not enjoy gradually saying goodbye to my smaller clothes and shopping sizes too big for my height. January 1, 2008, I put myself on an individualized eating plan. My main workout was The 30 Day Shred ~ Jillian Michaels. By April I had lost over 20 pounds. I maintained the lower weight for over a year. I have since lost about 15 more pounds.*

Running, I believe, is a gift to me from God. It makes me feel better in every way. Is it hard? Sometimes. Do I always want to go for a run? I don't always feel like it but discipline carries me through when I don't feel the desire. I am always glad when I just do it. Sometimes I have to stop thinking about whether I want to run and just get ready and get out the door. Even a bad run is a good run because I did it!

I blog here on running. You'll find interviews with other moms who run, healthy recipes, cute running clothes and more! I'll be hosting a give-a-way soon. So make sure you become a follower of See My Mom Run!

*(Due to the cancer diagnosis and Andrew's passing, I lost another 15 pounds. I add this to explain the additional weight loss.)

  2. Hi beautiful!

You're such an encourager! You feel to running what I feel about walking. I love walking with GOD. I fell out of consistency in the last two years but have began again consistently in the last month. I need to lose more weight for sure and I just enjoy that time with GOD. Praying, listening, gleaning from Him.

I will pop in on your running blog. Blessings to you and your family. Keeping you all in prayer.

  3. Melanie, you have truly inspired me! I didn't realize you had lost all that weight. I will read the other posts you linked to. Over the past five years of ongoing stress, I've indulged in sweets and increased volumes of food. The latest straw was when I had to sell my treadmill, along with all of the furnishings in my home and move. With triple digit heat, I stopped exercising for six months. That was unheard of for me! I've been consistent with exercise for the last 40 years so this was a first. Being past menopause further complicated it all.

Betweeen you and Sandy Cooper, I know I can get back to my previous weight and conditioning. It helps to have support and encouragement. The Lord is my strength and all I need. When I'm stressed, I want to run to Him.

I also got a bit more motivated when I saw the horrendous photos of me. :) I know that sounds vain but ...

    Hugs and love,
    Debbie

  4. you look a----MA---zing! Honestly Melanie! And you are inspiring me. I am halfway through the goal for myself and already feel like a new person! I don't run, but I do walk, and do aerobics. I am really proud of what you have accomplished, and kept off! On ward and forward!

  5. My military husband is gone for awhile, and I'm missing him terribly. Last night I was so down in the dumps, I laced up my tennis shoes and went for a quick 15 min. run. That short run completely got me out of my funk! I think everyone should be a runner!!!

  6. What an inspiration you are to me. Perhaps one day soon, when I get on the other side of these drain tubes, I'll be able to run again... even with chemotherapy as part of my regimen. I certainly hope so. I dearly miss it. My son Jadon took me on "my walk" this morning. We went slowly around the block for about a mile and a half. Wore me out, but it was good to be outside and the company, supreme!

Love you friend. You look great... weathered and all.

  8. Love this Mel! So inspiring. I just completed week 5 of my couch to 5K training. I turn 40 October 5th, the same week I'll complete my training and then I'm doing my 1st 5K on October 17th!
What I always told myself "I can't do" and "I hate running" has turned into being the best blessing ever for me. God has given me the strength, the focus and the desire and now love needed to do this.
Not only have I lost 11 pounds so far, but like my friend told me this weekend, "you look toned".

Thank you for your encouragement and wisdom you have learned from taking care of our bodies.
    Love you!!
    Lelia
