Help a Girlfriend Out!

What Bible study have you used that you highly recommend? I'm looking for something to do on my own as an individual study and I'd love to have your insight and suggestions.
Thanks!

We used our tripod and set the camera on a timer for some pictures in our yard on Sunday. The skateboard pictured is one of three Andrew got for Christmas 2008.

  1. Hi Melanie- Yes I checked just last week to find out the homegoing date. I will be thinking of you so fiercely on this day.

I have done Henry Blackaby's Experiencing God which left a definte impression on me forever in my walk with Him.

  2. Funny to read Lisa's comment. I am doing Blackaby's study right now. :) I started it in 2003 and picked it back up recently. I had never finished it.

Also I wrote a comment back to you on my blog about heaven. I too see the word amazing as that place. To prepare-- our hearts to meet our King face to face. And of course, to reunite with our precious family.

I'll be praying for you as you remember Andrew. I will never forget him. Thank you for sharing his life with me.

    Love,
    t

  3. Of course, I'm in the midst of Leah Adam's study From the trash pile to the treasure chest: leaving a godly legacy. I'm doing it on my own and loving where it is taking me each day.

On another note, just wanted to tell you I was able to finish listening to your talk just now, and sister, what an anointing that was on you! I have my eyes "locked" on Jesus today, even as he has his "locked" on me! Thanks for the good word. May God grant you many more occasions like this one to be his light and witness to this generation.

A faith that endures. Keep to it...

  5. Hey Mel,

Anything from Beth Moore. I especially like the very first one I did. A Heart Like His, the study of the life of David.

    I love OT studies.

Anything by Kay Arthur, my all time favorite.

Let us know what you decide.

You are such a gifted teacher. I'd love to hear you speak, live and in person one of these days.

    Love you♥

  6. I love Stormie O's The Power of Praise! I read it about 6 years ago after we lost our home in a fire.... and again recently. I especially like that it does not require a long term commitment to complete it...

  7. Melanie,

I too remember Andrew's going home date because it is my birthday, and my brothers going home date too 22 years ago. Initially I was very sad, but then I took comfort knowing that he went to his forever home on my birthday. Please know you will be in my prayers next Wednesday.

I love Beth Moore studies, my favorite two are Daniel and Esther. I am constantly referring back to both of them.

  8. Melanie:

I have really enjoyed all the ones mentioned here, and I would add Priscilla Shirer. I did a study with Beth Moore, Kay Arthur & Priscilla. She had my attention and grabbed my heart right from the start. I really related to her - she is very real and 'right where we live'.

I'm thinking of Andrew, and of his first year in heaven. Oh how I wish we could part the clouds and peek. It's all joy for Andrew!

  9. Depends on what you're looking for, but just about anything by Margaret Feinberg is amazing. She sells books and she also sells group study materials as well if you're looking to do a group study.

  10. I have been praying for you as the date of Andrew's homecoming approaches, and I will continue to. The first 'everything' is SO hard. Prayers for God's grace, mercy, and love to envelop and hold you during this hard time.

  11. Blessings Melanie...I'm with Susan on both Beth Moore, Kay Arthur or Stormie Omartian's books... I was going to say "BREAKING FREE..." for B. Moore and any in Kay Arthur's Lord series like "Lord, Heal MY Hurts"

I am grieving this week and I knew that you would be approaching Andrew's homecoming...and so I have already been praying for you to have the strength and Comforter with you to remember Andrew fondly as you have but with courage to see the hope and glory he now enjoys. May God surround with His awesome Presence and wrap His ever loving arms around you and hold you as you dearly hold on to Andrew...his photos, his things... may You grasp the infinite love and prayers of many of us lifting you and your family... and how much we grieve with you and the empty hole left that only Jesus can fill.

    Peace and love,
    Peggy

  12. me again...after I visited here I read this from Roy Lessin, Meet Me in the Meadow and felt it would bless you as it blessed me:
May You Find Him to Be by Roy

May you find Him to be—

    the peace for every struggle,

    the supply for every need,

    the solution for every problem,

    the escape for every temptation,

    the release for every burden,

    the balm for every pain,

    the comfort for every sorrow,

    the victory for every battle,

    the wisdom for every decision,

    the strength for every endeavor,

    the hope for every tomorrow,

    the song for every day.

I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency]. Philippians 4:13 AMP

  13. I would say anything Beth Moore. She has some books out right now that are a 90 day study. Jesus the One and Only. David ~ A heart like his.

I know the date is upon you and I am praying for all of you. Let the tears fall, and the healing balm of Gilead wash over you Melanie. It is only in the arms of Christ that we can find Comfort.

    Love you!

  14. I love your new blog design. I haven't been here in a while. It's gorgeous, as are the pictures of you at the top.

I know about the up-coming date, and I think of you and pray for you often. From one mom who's been there to another: Just do whatever you need to do to get through it. Thirteen years later, and I'm still living by that philosophy on the anniversary of Noah's death.

Know that you have a LOT of people praying for you, all over the country. Big hugs!!!

As far as a good bible study, I really liked Beth Moore's Believing God. Of course, anything Beth Moore is just fabulous. But I really liked this one.

    Love you, friend!
    Sandy

  17. I have been reading your blog for the past year.
I am another mother whose son, at the age of 24, was taken home to be with the Lord some years ago ~ December 7th was the date.
I admire you for the courage and strength you have shown these past months ~ you are an incredible woman.
May the Lord bless you with the special blessings you need the most in the days to come.
    Peace,

  18. Hi Melanie, I read this post on the 12th, the homegoing of our son six years ago. I have ended up here again this morning and will take time to say that I have prayed for you many times because I am know how much the prayers of our brothers and sisters in Christ held us up especially on anniversary dates. One of the studies I did this year that I loved the most was Ruth by Kelly Minter. I believe I saw it recommended by Beth Moore. You have been such a blessing to me this year since I came upon your blog. God bless you this Christmas season!
