Edited/Rizpah here...

Edited: Treatment with Temodar first then a resting phase followed by the phase 1 study using Avastin, Irinotecan and Temodar.

Yesterday we were all in church together. The Christmas program was wonderful! Our pastor asked our church to be in prayer and fasting for Andrew on December 17.
We pray for a miracle of healing to take place in Andrew's body.
He told me again this morning that he needs to get better, that he wants to get better.
Amen.

Andrew had his simulation today. That is preparation for radiation. He should be starting within 10 days. They will call.

I think we have decided to go with a phase 1 study being conducted at All Children's Hospital here in St. Pete.
The combination of drugs has shown some promise. This is a hard decision because the potential side effects are greater than standard protocol. But after lots of research I am leaning toward the phase 1 study. My husband and I are going to give it a few days and pray about the treatment path.

Andrew is going through a lot right now. As you can imagine, this is very hard on a 12 yr. old.
He is on a wait list for physical and occupational therapy. That is very frustrating. We are limited in what we know to do with him as far as improving his function. In the meantime, his left arm dangles at his side and he walks crookedly and slowly. And the left side of his face does not cooperate with his right side.
Heartbreaking.

Meanwhile I am...
Persisting in prayer despite the medical prognosis...BECAUSE of the medical prognosis.
Trying to make these days "normal" for all of our sakes.
Hoping Christmas will bring a miracle for Andrew and many others.
Keeping two words in my mind...BUT GOD.

Prayer requests for Andrew:
healing, of course
improved function on left side
no more headaches
restful sleep at night
hope and happy days
no negative side effects from treatment
a cure

I love you all for your continued prayers and sweet encouragements. God is Good and trustworthy.
"By His stripes, Andrew is healed..."

  13. Melanie,
I just stopped by to check in on Andrew. He is in our prayers often. I just want to let you know that equally uplifted in prayer is your Avery. Perhaps his thoughts are too full for him to be able to express right now.I would not worry that he is not able to express right now. I would imagine his "love tank " empties quickly as a 15 yo in this much stress. As long as he has confidence in your love for him as his parents he will "make it through" this difficult time.
I want to stress that this is not a judgment call it is just the thought that passed in my mind. (sometimes the type written word comes across differently than its intent) As a sister in Christ I am hurting with you and praying that the Lord build a strong safe wall around your family.

"This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. It is good that a man sholud both hope & quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord. ~ Lamentatons 3: 22-26

  15. We are being faithful with the praying.

"I love the Lord because he hears my prayers. Because he bends down and listens, I will pray as long as I have breath." Psalm 116:1-2

This was my scripture this morning, sweet friend. Hold onto this in your heart.

    Hugs!
    Susan

  24. continuing in prayer for that miracle! Standing firm in what I know God will do :)

also could you pray for a teen we know. Mara plays in an older division of my daughter's soccer league. During a Thanksgiving tournament last weekend she collided with another player and took a hard hit to the head. When her parents took her to the er later that night she had swelling and an injury to the left side of her brain. She's been vomiting and having severe headaches all week and I just received word that she's been moved to icu.

thanks melanie , I'm praying for you as well may you find rest as you wait on the Lord. may he renew your strength day after day. love you.

  28. Elaine called you both a "WARRIOR"
just like God did with Gideon:

    Judges 6
12 When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, He said, "The LORD is with you, MIGHTY WARRIOR."
    [emphasis added]

Gideon was in the middle of terrible [hopeless] circumstances and God was calling him forth the way GOD saw him - as that "mighty warrior"!

God knows our fearful hearts - yet He gives us courage and confidence to face [through His strength and grace] whatever circumstances might seem to devastate the moment.

Hold on to this TRUTH from God's Word - Andrew [and Melanie]---- YOU TRULY ARE
    GOD'S MIGHTY WARRIORS!
You are fighting the good fight of FAITH - believing in Your God to do what He says He can do --- all to bring Him glory and praise!

Andrew - Your life COUNTS with God - RIGHT NOW - not just in your future! Live each day NOW - in His presence and HIS care and HIS loving arms.[God will take care of the hopes and plans of your future].

The Lord goes on to say in
    Judges 6
13 "But sir," Gideon replied, "if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us?...
14 The LORD turned to him and said, "GO IN THE STRENGTH YOU HAVE..." [emphasis added]

Andrew - Go forth NOW - this day - in the strength God has given you. He is building HIS character into your life - for His kingdom purposes!

May the Hand of our Lord ANOINT your life today with the power of His Spirit!

    Choosing JOY, Stephanie

  35. Just read about your text to Lisa.

Father in heaven, we know You know each of Andrew's days. You have a perfect plan and purpose for his life and You are working it out right now.
God it is our desire to see Andrew healed right here, right now, in the land of the living. And we know that if You are willing, You can do it!
God, You are that big and that good and that powerful.
Lord, if You are willing, if it is part of Your perfect plan, please bring Andrew healing tonight. Please, God! Bring him healing in Jesus' name. By the power of His blood.
And Father, I want to pray to for Melanie and her husband and all their family. As they kneel by and wait for You, please be their strength. Bring them comfort. Assure them of Your presence and goodness and faithfulness and unending love for each of them.
Yes, Lord! Show them Your power and cover them with Your love.
I'm asking it in the wonderful, powerful, beautiful, matchless Name of JESUS.
    Amen and amen!
